In WP Royal themes, the website width is controlled through the Layout settings inside Global Styles.
This allows you to control how wide your content appears across:
- Homepage
- Blog posts
- Pages
- Archive layouts
Instead of adjusting each page individually, you change it once and it applies everywhere.
Understanding Website Width in FSE #
There are usually two important width settings:
- Content Width → Controls the main reading area (where text appears)
- Wide Width → Controls wider sections like full-width blocks, featured areas, and hero sections
How to Change Website Width #
Follow these steps:
- Go to Appearance → Editor
- Click the Styles icon (half black / half white circle)
- Click Edit Styles
- Select Layout
Inside Layout, you’ll see:
- Content Size
- Content Width controls how wide your blog posts and pages appear.
- For example:
- Smaller width → More focused reading experience (better for long-form blogs)
- Larger width → More modern, magazine-style layout
- To change it:
- Click on Content Size
- Enter your preferred width (example: 720px, 800px, 1100px)
- Save your changes
- Wide Width
- Wide Width is used when blocks are set to “Wide Width” alignment.
- This affects:
- Featured sections
- Post grids
- Hero sections
- Category layouts
- To change it:
- Click on Wide Size
- Enter your desired value (example: 1200px, 1400px, etc.)
- Save
Full Width vs Wide Width #
Some blocks can also be set to:
- Full Width → Stretches edge to edge of the screen
- Wide Width → Stretches beyond content width but stays centered
Full Width ignores content width settings.
Wide Width respects the “Wide Size” value you set in Layout.
Important Reminder #
Changing Layout width in Global Styles affects:
- All templates
- All pages
- All posts
If you only want to change the width of one specific section, you should adjust that block’s alignment instead of modifying global layout.
Best Practice for Blog & Magazine Sites (WP Royal Tip) #
For blog-focused websites:
- Use a narrower Content Width (720px–800px) for better readability.
- Use wider Wide Width (1200px–1400px) for homepage and grid sections.
This keeps your reading experience comfortable while still allowing modern layouts.
